Depression is caused by many factors. Two of those factors are stress and burn out. When we are stressed our body’s react differently then when we are relaxed. It can lead to many types of illnesses one of which is depression. If the body is under too much stress for too long it will simply shut down. The person will simply cease to function in the same capacity.
It is impossible to avoid stress in our lives completely. We all are under pressure at one time or another. This can be healthy at times as well. However, constant stress will eventually have negative effects. In this article we will look at the signs of overstress and burn out. These can eventually lead to chronic depression.
People who are under constant stress may seem chronically fatigued, tired and run down. Stress depleted your energy sources and leaves your body feeling physically drained. This symptom is quite dangerous because it is directly linked to depression. Sometimes people get angry at those making demands. We can all over react at some point or another but if they show excessive anger at the slightest request then this person may need a break.
Sometimes people will get increasingly self critical. They may be angry at themselves for letting things pile up or for giving into everyone’s demands. Anger at ones self can be linked to depression so this is a sign that should raise some alarms.
When people are under incredible stress and strain they feel like they are being besieged. They feel the world is out to get them and display feelings of extreme paranoia. Again, irrational thinking is also a sign of depression so keep a close eye on anyone that is displaying this behavior.
If people seem to be having frequent headaches or gastrointestinal problems then this is a sign they are under too much stress. This can lead to serious health problems if they don’t slow down.
Knowing when someone is under too much stress and strain can have an effect on depression. Stress is one of the leading causes and knowing the warning signs could make the difference between severe depression and coping with stress. If you or anyone you know are showing these symptoms then encourage them to seek help. The alternative could be far worse.
